The Position

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health and Wellness/Wardenburg Health Center Director (AVC) leads the Health and Wellness directors and the Wardenburg Health Center teams, while being responsive to current and emerging student health issues and responding to both internal and external constituencies. This position oversees a $20M dollar budget, 170 professional and classified staff and approximately 90 student staff. This individual must demonstrate a personal demeanor that inspires excellence and collaboration within Health and Wellness, Student Affairs, and throughout the campus and community. In addition, this position must be successful in: working with highly motivated students and student leaders; providing the appropriate support and student mentoring to ensure the long-term vision for sustained excellence; fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect, caring, collaborative engagement, accountability, and personal growth in health and wellness; and building collaborative relationships within CU and the broader community to promote health and wellness. The successful candidate will provide leadership for planning and response to key public health emergencies, creatively responding to the students' needs and the needs of the broader community while advocating for departments and Wardenburg. A strong working knowledge of and familiarity with health care standards, issues, trends, personnel, insurance, and national health care agenda/reform legislation is essential.

Qualifications

A master's degree in higher education administration, public health, health administration or a related field is required. Candidates will possess five years of experience in higher education demonstrating increased levels of responsibility, supervision, and administrative oversight of programs; excellent abilities and a proven track record in leading, developing, and implementing strategic vision, mission, and plans to sustain efforts over time; leadership skills and experience including teamwork, collaboration, change management, and the ability to assess and make hard decisions; demonstrated ability to cultivate, model, and foster an inclusive environment for diversity in all its forms; the ability to increase and enhance excellence by developing systematic methods of assessment to improve and renew programs, incorporating benchmarking against best practices and gathering necessary data for informed decision-making; proven ability to effectively lead and manage teams of skilled professionals, make tough personnel decisions, and work well as a member of leadership teams; demonstrated written communication skills; demonstrated fiscal management and business skills; an understanding of higher education, combined with the knowledge of best practices in the advancement of student health care and/or wellness programs such as counseling, recreation, or health promotion; and the ability to be collaborative and involve others in decision making.
