The PositionReporting to the Vice President for Business Services, the Director of Business Services is responsible for providing leadership and management for a portfolio of departments consisting of Transportation, Parking, Mail Services, and the Class of 1923 Ice Rink. The Director provides short and long range planning for the departments; develops, interprets, revises, and implements departmental policies, procedures and guidelines; leads staff in the continuous assessment of current services and in development and implementation of new and innovative services; and actively participates in University-wide initiatives. The Director is also responsible for planning, operational oversight, safety, customer service, fiscal stewardship, and quality assurance for the department's services. The Director of Business Services manages a budget of over $17 million and serves as a member of the Vice President's leadership team. A new transportation hub with expanded operational opportunities is expected to open in fall 2010, making this a particularly exciting time for a new Director. QualificationsThe successful candidate must possess a bachelor's degree with eight to ten years of related, and progressively responsible, experience. Advanced degree (e.g. MBA or Masters in Urban Planning) candidates are preferred. Penn seeks a leader with proven management and leadership ability; demonstrated strength in budget management and business case development; and planning and effective project management skills. The position requires demonstrated expertise in operational management, an understanding of, and commitment to, the goals and values of an academic community, strong communication and problem solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies. Experience with current practices and trends in transportation and parking is preferred.
