Through its 12 schools and colleges, UM offers 180 undergraduate majors and programs, 130 masters, and 60 doctoral degrees, including highly regarded programs in business, law, medicine, and marine science. The Director of Housing and Residential Life oversees the facilities and programs of the University's residential program, which consists of five residential colleges and seven apartment buildings. The Director manages 25 professional/administrative staff in the in the areas of residential programming, marketing, assignments, conference housing, and administrative operations. The Director reports to the Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education and the Vice President for Student Affairs. The Director will partner with live-in faculty masters, associates, and other academic and student affairs leaders to support a vibrant range of lectures, seminars, discussions, social, and recreational programs that shape the life of the residential colleges. In addition, the Director is responsible for a budget of $28 million and for working collaboratively with physical plant, facilities, environmental services, and dining services to insure the overall quality of the housing program. QualificationMinimum qualifications include a master's degree with demonstrated progressive senior responsibility in a complex residential life/housing program. Significant supervision of staff, financial expertise, facility maintenance experience, crisis management, and planning is required. Previous experience working within a living/learning residential life environment, where faculty, student affairs staff, and students collaborate, work, and learn together, is valuable. Sensitivity to the roles and perspectives of a diverse, multicultural community is essential. Successful candidates will also possess a background in student development and knowledge of the contemporary student issues and challenges that are inherent in today's higher education environment. Of particular interest will be candidates with experience in first year initiatives for first year housing areas and in special interest housing opportunities that emphasize academic objectives.
