Director of Residence LifeColorado State University, Fort Collins, COReview of applications will begin March 26, 2010 Overview Colorado State University (CSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Residence Life in the Department of Housing & Dining Services. The department is a comprehensive auxiliary enterprise and includes Residence Life, Residential Dining, Apartment Life, Operations Management, Conference Services, and CSU's mountain campus, Pingree Park. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a culturally vibrant and progressive community of 137,000. The city is sited on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountain foothills with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers easy access to numerous outdoor opportunities. Responsibilities of the PositionThe Director of Residence Life provides vision, leadership, and daily administration for a dynamic residence life system comprised of over 5,000 students living in 13 residence halls. The position oversees 51 full-time and graduate-level staff, approximately 400 undergraduate student staff, and oversees an $8.5 million operating budget. The Director is responsible for creating living-learning communities and for shaping environments that support students' personal growth and academic success. The position directs and administers areas of staff selection/training/development, diversity initiatives, educational programming, leadership development, graphic design, residence hall assignments, and student rights and responsibilities. The Director models an active commitment to diversity and inclusion, a passion for the profession, and the talent to incorporate best practices into the organizational culture. The Director is a key administrative leader within Housing & Dining Services and Student Affairs, and maintains important liaison relationships with a broad array of University offices. QualificationsMinimum requirements for the position are a Master's degree, six years of progressively responsible administrative experience in housing/residence life including supervision of full-time staff, and an expressed and demonstrated commitment to diversity. Successful candidates will also possess experience training, mentoring, and developing a large and diverse staff; excellent organizational and administrative skills, including budget management; working knowledge of student development and leadership development theory; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to manage conflicts and crisis situations; and a collegial interpersonal style with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the department and with numerous University stakeholder groups.
