The PositionReporting to the Dean, the Managing Director oversees a staff of 19 responsible for employer relations and outreach, career development, student coaching, and career-enhancing programmatic events for full- and part-time MBA students and undergraduate business majors. The Managing Director serves as the primary liaison between the Career Services office and a range of multinational companies, developing strong partnerships between the Smith School and employers. The Director anticipates, responds to, and recognizes trends that impact national and global rankings and works to enhance the Smith community and promote the Smith School brand. The successful Director will be an outstanding collaborator who works with alumni, corporate relations, faculty, MBA and undergraduate program heads, and the larger community in developing and implementing programs and services that address the needs of the School's student populations in the current economic climate, and will lead the alignment of the Office of Career Services with the Dean's strategic objectives for the School. The Managing Director also must have the ability to establish and maintain strong trust and rapport with Smith's undergraduate and MBA students in order to understand and respond to their needs while sharpening their knowledge about, and expectations of, the intersect between those needs, career services, and employer job opportunities. The new Director will be joining Smith School at an exciting time in the history of the School as the Office of Career Services has received a $5 million gift that is targeted to renovating and building out a new state of the art career services space. The QualificationsThe successful candidate will possess a master's degree with a strong record of experience and achievement in career services, human resources, or human capital management. The new Director will demonstrate broad experience and skill in managing a staff and a budget, and will have excellent relationship management, customer service, and strong leadership skills. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of the student career experience, undergraduate and MBA curriculums, and the employment marketplace. The Director will lead the day-to-day operations of a busy and complex career services office and will need to possess a high level of energy in order to build strong relationships with different constituencies while jointly analyzing existing practices in order to impart the highest level of quality for all operations in pursuit of influencing a customer service-oriented culture.
