Overview

The University of New England (UNE), located in the coastal area of southern Maine, is one of the fastest growing private universities in Maine and the region. The University is comprised of six colleges—Arts & Sciences, Health Professions, Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy, Graduate Studies, and Dental Medicine (that will welcome its first class in fall 2012). UNE is an entrepreneurial, forward-looking institution with several online master's degree programs in education and in social work. The University enrolls approximately 5,000 degree and credit seeking students at its beautiful, suburban Biddeford and Portland, Maine campuses. The Position

Reporting to the Dean of Enrollment Management, the Registrar is a member of the senior enrollment management team and leads an office currently comprised of 9.5 FTEs. The Registrar is responsible for creating the vision, establishing and maintaining policy, and implementing best practices that enhance customer service, uphold the integrity of all academic programs, and serve a growing academic enterprise. Additionally, the Registrar provides oversight of and leadership for: academic history; registration; classroom scheduling, student information systems (SCT Banner); curriculum maintenance; degree certification and issuance of official transcripts and diplomas; catalog publication; academic calendars; and compliance issues including FERPA, VA certification, and student immigration. Strengthening communication and web based resources, as well as supporting ongoing professional growth and the development of a versatile, highly capable staff are important priorities for the next Registrar. Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) with a minimum of five years progressive experience in a registrar/student services functional capacity within a higher education institution. Demonstrated familiarity with academic policies; institutional, state, and federal regulations/compliance issues; higher education governance; and best practices regarding the maintenance of academic records and management of registration services is required. Excellent technology skills involved in the management of complex academic record systems, including document imaging and web self-service programs, and an ability to integrate new technology to enhance automation and customer service are essential to success. The Registrar must be comfortable leading change and possess the organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills to build consensus and advance both projects and policies in a dynamic academic institution providing both traditional and online degree programs. An appreciation for the liberal arts and sciences, as well as graduate/professional degree programs will also be considered in the selection of the next Registrar.
