The SJG Search Process: What we do and why
- Create a customized service contract to identify the role and involvement of SJG in your search.
- Conduct campus visit(s) to gain perspective on your institution and the position, including its mission, philosophy, organizational structure, and management style.
- Establish a search schedule to keep the process moving and on track.
- Recruit, recruit, recruit to assemble as many qualified candidates as possible. We reach out personally to potential candidates. Job announcements are also posted in publications like the Chronicle of Higher Education, and on various appropriate websites. They are also distributed by email and listservs.
- Acknowledge receipt of all resumes, review all resumes, and recommend top candidates to the search committee.
- Conduct a thorough review of top candidates. As part of the candidate pre-qualifying process, we speak with their references, confer with other sources, and perform formal background checks.
- Furnish a detailed report on all of the top candidates to disseminate comprehensive information as efficiently as possible to the search committee.
- Facilitate on-campus interviews for finalists. SJG provides successful techniques and strategies for ensuring effective on-campus interviews.
- Expedite a favorable match. Compensation packages play a key role in successful hires. SJG assists you with structuring a competitive compensation package, but we leave the final negotiation in your hands.
- Notify all respondents that the search is closed. We feel it's important to put closure on the process for all candidates. Once the search is complete, we handle the final details for you.
- At various intervals after the search is complete, we will reach out to the hired candidate and key contact(s) on campus to offer post-placement support.
