Barbara M. Fienman, Ph.D.
Higher Education Consultant and Senior Advisor to the Board
Dr. Fienman is a student affairs professional with more than 30 years of experience in higher education administration. During her career, she has held full time positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Suffolk University (Massachusetts), Wentworth Institute of Technology (Massachusetts) and Mt. Ida College (Massachusetts), in the offices of residence life, student activities, and student affairs administration. Since 1995, Dr. Fienman has served in interim positions for colleges and universities that are seeking temporary assistance either due to a failed search or a mid-year vacancy. Dr. Fienman has served as an interim dean of students, registrar, dean of enrollment management, director of a career center, regional admissions counselor, financial aid counselor, director of student conduct, director of residence life, and director of international student services. Dr. Fienman received her bachelor’s in American history from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an EdM from Boston University, and a PhD from Boston College. She is involved in a number of professional associations, including NASPA, ASCA, ACPA, and NAFSA, and is a frequent presenter on student discipline, legal issues, and professional development. Dr. Fienman has taught in the master’s degree programs at Salem State College (Massachusetts) and at Northeastern University (Massachusetts) as well as an adjunct faculty member in the Administration of Higher Education graduate programs at Suffolk University (Massachusetts).
