Reporting to the Vice President of Student Life/Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Student Life will lead strategic planning initiatives, guide assessment efforts, provide budgetary oversight, and manage a cluster of departments focused on orientation and transition. The Associate Dean will provide direct supervision to the Director of Parent and Family Programs, Assistant Dean/Director of New Students and Transition Programs, and Assistant Dean/Director of Disability Services. The Associate Dean will be expected to collaborate closely with, and participate in, outreach activities both within and outside of the Division of Student Life, including but not limited to, housing, counseling center, psychiatry, student center, and undergraduate studies. The Associate Dean will participate in, and coordinate, the emergency on-call protocol and schedule for the Division of Student Life. He/she will assist in responding to parents, faculty, advisors, and others who express concern for a student’s well-being. The Associate Dean will assist the Vice President/Dean of Students in the development and execution of the Division’s strategic goals and provide support and leadership on a wide variety of projects and initiatives assigned by the Vice President/Dean of Students. As needed, the Associate Dean shall provide leadership for the Division of Student Life in the absence of the Vice President/Dean of Students.
The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree (terminal degree preferred) in student affairs/higher education administration or related field. A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible leadership in student life and/or relevant higher education administration experience is also required. The candidate must have a proven track record of success as a supervisor, including performance evaluation, assessment of performance effectiveness, and professional development. In addition, the candidate must be effective in setting priorities and deadlines to ensure project goals and objectives are met; analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement actions in a timely manner; demonstrate the effectiveness of a culturally competent professional with broad experience in supporting the needs of a diverse student population; and, exhibit exemplary interpersonal and public relations skills.
