The Position
Susquehanna is seeking a new director of athletics to lead a department of talented coaches and staff, who are deeply committed to NCAA Division III athletics and the scholar-athlete model within the Landmark Conference and the Centennial Conference (football). The director will lead the administration of the intercollegiate athletic programs, club sports and recreation, as well as provide oversite of all administrative, compliance, recruiting, fundraising, operational and business functions.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life, the Director of Athletics provides visionary leadership, supervision, and management supporting the academic and athletic success of students in concert with the University’s mission and strategic priorities. The Director will play a central role in developing creative, state-of-the-art programs and services that animate physical fitness in a comprehensive way among students, faculty, and staff, that support staff and student leadership, and that articulate connections between campus recreation and academic success. The new director of athletics will have the opportunity to create new programs at the intersection of the university’s mission and market and develop a common, intentional co-curricular student-athlete experience responsive to the university’s strategic plan. The successful candidate will be a steadfast collaborator and educator. As a senior member within the Division of Student Life, the director collaborates with other offices within the division, and other key stakeholders such as Academic Affairs, Finance and Administration, Enrollment Management, University Communications and Marketing, and University Advancement.

The director is responsible for a department consisting of 23 varsity sports, over 70 professional coaches and staff, over 600 student athletes and a $ 3.1 million dollar budget.

Qualifications
A master’s degree and a minimum of seven years of progressive leadership experience in collegiate athletics administration is required. The successful candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of NCAA Division III athletics administration, scholar-athlete development, compliance, and the role of fundraising in supporting strategic and operating objectives. Experience coaching; collaborative management approach; superior communication and relationship-building skills; strong supervisory, planning and fiscal competencies; an understanding of the role of enrollment at a small, private college; a familiarity with strategic planning, program development and assessment; excellent problem-solving abilities; and demonstrated respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of campus life will be important considerations in the selection of the next director of athletics.
